About our Speakers

Sanjay Adhia, MD, Board Certified Forensic Psychiatrist became board certified
in Psychiatry, American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in 2014, 2015, and 2018. He received an education from Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon in 2014. Followed by a Psychiatry Residency at the University of Texas HSC, in 2012. Along with a Psychiatry Internship at the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2009 and his Doctor of Medicine, M.S in Ramaiah Medical College in 2004. Dr. Sanjay Adhia has various professional Affiliations, some including Physicians for human Rights, Asylum Network, American Psychiatric Association, and American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law. Some of his awards include Editor-In-Chief of Brain Injury Medicine: State Pearls and he was ranked #1 in Psychiatry Residency In-Service (PRITE) in 2010. Dr.
Adhia has participated in various presentations, research, and publications.

David Fetter, MD, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon is a Board-Certified
Orthopedic Surgeon by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. Dr. Fetter maintains an active private practice with 40 years’ experience. He has a special interest in consulting regarding the topic of Causation involving Complex Orthopedic Surgery Cases. Dr. Fetter received an additional certification, CEDIR certification, the physician credential of competence providing IME’s, in the Evaluation of Disability and Impairment Rating, by the International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators. Dr. Fetter was elected to Fellowship of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the International Academy of Independent Medical Evaluators. Dr. Fetter is licensed to practice medicine
in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Arizona. In 1971, Dr. Fetter received his BA degree cum laude, from West Virginia University. He received his MD degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. Dr. Fetter completed a surgery internship at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals, followed by an Orthopedic Surgery residency at Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York. Dr. Fetter completed a Total Joint Replacement Fellowship at Harvard University, Boston, Massachusetts in 1978. He served as President of the Lake County, Illinois Medical Society in 1997, and is currently on the medical staff of multiple hospitals. Dr. Fetter was an orthopedic consultant to the State of Illinois Office of Inspector General Bureau of Medical Quality Assurance, and currently consults to the City of Chicago, and the United States Department of Justice, regarding Orthopedic Causation cases.

Vicky Dickerson,  joined Arch insurance as Claims Account Manager, DBA
Claims in March 2020. She has over 30 years in international and Defense Base Act (DBA) claims. Vicky worked a frontline desk for AIG during Operation Desert Storm and the Kosovo/ Macedonia actions, as well as serving as AVP handling and overseeing international programs. Her contributions include developing training and growth programs for various companies, as well as working with the Department of Labor on streamlining claims handling processes when Operation Iraqi Freedom started. Most recently, she has been working to improve the War Hazards Recovery process; a statute/vehicle which allows Carrier(s) to recover funds spent on claims involving war/combat related activities. Prior to joining Arch, Vicky worked for several companies in the international arena, including AIG, Gallagher Bassett and AWAC.

Monica Markovich practices law with Brown Sims, P.C. in its Houston, Texas location. Brown Sims, P.C. was established in 1968 as an admiralty firm with the purpose of serving its clients in the Gulf Coast area and abroad. Since that time, the firm’s practice has expanded to include a broad range of legal services throughout the general scope of civil litigation. Ms. Markovich’s current practice focuses on the defense of claims brought under the Defense Base Act (an extension to the Longshore and Harbor Workers’
Compensation Act). Ms. Markovich has experience in the defense of carriers in bad faith litigation, maritime litigation, under the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act, in “nonsubscriber” litigation, and in other death and personal injury cases. In addition to her legal practice, Ms. Markovich leads Brown Sims’ multi-state Defense Base Act practice group and serves on the firm’s Board of Directors. Ms. Markovich is a member of the State Bar of Texas and has been Board Certified in Workers’ Compensation Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2004. Ms. Markovich serves on the Board of Directors and previously as President (2014) of the DOL-Joint Bar Association, Inc. She has been serving on the Benefits Review Board Service Advisory Board since 2008. Ms. Markovich has lectured on legal subjects including at seminars presented by The University of Texas, Louisiana State University, Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, URIMA, The State Bar of Texas, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Markovich received her Bachelor of Arts (1990) and Doctor of Jurisprudence (1993) from the University of Texas in Austin.

Hanna Verlander was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She received her
education from the University of New Orleans, receiving a Bachelor of General Studies. She received her Juris Doctorate and Bachelor of Civil Law from Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Since earning her JD, her practice has included insurance defense, maritime/admiralty law, and construction, transportation, and personal injury litigation. In 2015, she started concentrating on claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act and the Defense Base Act. She has in-depth knowledge of these laws and thrives on creating unique approaches to each case. She addresses the specific needs of her clients, while approaching plaintiffs with empathy and understanding. In addition to being the right thing to do, she knows that will lead to greater collaboration and rapport. She enjoys being part of the community of professionals that regularly works on these claims and is known for developing respectful and long-term relationships with everyone involved – clients, insurance companies, plaintiffs, opposing counsel, judges and Department of Labor adjusters.
